I made a decision to be more open and public about my posts wherein I wrestle with topics of faith and religion, but the truth is that I have been doing so fairly openly for years now, if only with varying degrees of frequency.
I decided to start this blog, Wrestling With The Angel, to have a dedicated home for my writing that is easily accessible to everyone, and which I can update from anywhere. The name is a reference to Genesis 32:25-29, wherein Jacob wrestles with an angel of God.
25 And Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until the break of dawn.
26 When he saw that he could not prevail against him, he touched the socket of his hip, and the socket of Jacob’s hip became dislocated as he wrestled with him.
27 And he (the angel) said, “Let me go, for dawn is breaking,” but he (Jacob) said, “I will not let you go unless you have blessed me.”
28 So he said to him, “What is your name?” and he said, “Jacob.”
29 And he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, because you have commanding power with [an angel of] God and with men, and you have prevailed.”
This passage has always been special to me, because that is my experience. I wrestle with God, with faith, with religion, constantly, and in that struggle, I find my meaning and connection.
I transferred over the relevant posts from the last few years over from my personal blog (currently down), and republished a couple of much older reviews which I felt were relevant to my current endeavor. For posts from 2012 all the way back to 2004, you can check the Religion archive at my old blog.
Edit April 4, 2018: All posts from Wrestling With The Angel have been transferred back to the main blog Daniel/Highmoon, and can be found under the Faith category.
